In my work with young children and adolescents I have found there is no one way to go about helping a child or a family. As much as is possible, I try to involve the child’s parents in the treatment process. At the beginning of treatment a consultation with the parents is often a starting point.
School or at home behavior, academic performance and social relationships tend to be where kids find themselves stuck.
Parents who consult with me have tried different approaches to helping their child and found them to be limited or ineffective. In my experience, a therapeutic relationship built on trust and collaboration with the family and the child offers the best hope of moving beyond the difficulties a child is experiencing.
